L-Carnitine

Price range: $55.00 through $60.00

Quaternary ammonium compound essential to mitochondrial fatty-acid transport, supplied for beta-oxidation research.

SKU: N/A Category:

Not a peptide but the shuttle that carries long-chain fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane — without it, beta-oxidation does not start.

About L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound synthesised from lysine and methionine. Its function is transport: long-chain fatty acids cannot cross the inner mitochondrial membrane as acyl-CoA, so they are transferred to carnitine by carnitine palmitoyltransferase I, carried across by a translocase, and handed back on the other side by CPT II.

That makes it a rate-limiting component of fatty-acid oxidation rather than a signalling molecule. Its presence in a metabolic catalogue is about substrate flux, not receptor pharmacology.

What the research covers

Work covers CPT I and CPT II kinetics, the carnitine to acylcarnitine ratio as a readout of mitochondrial fatty-acid flux, and acylcarnitine profiling as a diagnostic of incomplete oxidation. Exercise physiology and mitochondrial dysfunction models both draw on it.

The persistent methodological point is that supplying more carnitine only increases flux where carnitine availability was limiting, which in most intact systems it is not. Studies that find no effect and studies that find a large one are often both correct about different starting conditions. The metabolic research peptides hub sets out how this group divides.

L-Carnitine specification

  • Released against: the Certificate of Analysis for its own batch

Handling L-Carnitine

Highly hygroscopic — this is the practical handling issue and it is more pronounced than for the peptides stored alongside it. An open container gains water from the air quickly enough to affect gravimetric accuracy.

Weigh promptly, reseal immediately, and store dry. Aqueous solutions are chemically stable but should be prepared from freshly weighed material rather than from a container that has been open repeatedly.

Solvent options are under reconstitution supplies.

Certificates, delivery and terms

This batch ships with the Certificate of Analysis carrying the batch number printed on its label; how that is tested and released is set out on the lab testing page. Delivery, customs and returns are covered on the shipping page, common questions on the FAQ, and quantity pricing through bulk and wholesale. Supplied for in-vitro laboratory research only: not a medicine, not a supplement, not for human or veterinary use, and no dosing or administration guidance is provided — see the research use policy.
