Storage and handling

Using bacteriostatic water
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added as a preservative. The preservative is what allows a single vial to be drawn from repeatedly, where plain sterile water would be single-use once the stopper has been pierced. That makes it the standard diluent for reconstituting lyophilised peptides that will be used across several sessions.
Swab the stopper with alcohol before every draw, use a fresh sterile needle each time, and never return unused liquid to the vial. Once opened, keep the vial at 2–8°C and discard it at the end of the period stated on the label, or sooner if the solution becomes cloudy.
Match the volume of diluent to the concentration your protocol needs, and record both on the peptide vial label at the time you reconstitute it. The peptide product pages give handling notes specific to each sequence.
